Desmond Knox-Leet
Country: France
Desmond Knox-Leet was an English painter who, in 1961, joined up with French designers Yves Coueslant and Christiane Gautrot to found Diptyque, at first just a boutique for fabrics and handmade crafts. It was Knox-Leet who first pitched the idea of creating original scents, and he is credited with Diptyque''s very first EDT, L'Eau, inspired by a formula that dates back to the 16th century. In the intervening years before his death in a surgical accident in 1993, Knox-Leet helped lead Diptyque from a single store into an international luxury brand.
