The Scoop

In the Fall of 2014, Baccarat, the most prestigious and opulent crystalworks in the world, celebrated the 250th anniversary of their founding by releasing an extraordinary crystal decanter containing a luminous, exclusive fragrance created by Francis Kurkdjian. Only 250 of these bottles were produced, for a price of $4000 apiece. Now, for the first time ever, this spectacular fragrance is available to the world as Baccarat Rouge 540, a gorgeously woody floral-amber equal parts transparent, dense, and intense.

MFK describes Rouge 540 not in terms of top, heart and base notes, but rather as the interplay between three unique accords, each lending a distinct and visceral characteristic. The "breeze" accord, jasmine and saffron, sits sheer and delicately spiced on the skin, leading way for the cedar-driven blend of woods that make up the robust and crackling "heat" accord. Finally, a "mineral" accord of ambergris seems simultaneously warm and cool, delivering deceptively straightforward depth to mimic the sophistication of Baccarat Crystal itself. A fragrance that was only meant to belong to 250 of the world's wealthiest collectors is now available, and we could not be more thrilled to offer it.

Idk how anyone doesn’t know about this perfume at this point. It’s all over TikTok. Tons & tons of hype. I’ve never smelled anything like this before. I really love the scent. It’s unisex, which made me nervous, however I see how it works for both & I love it. I’m not great with explaining perfumes, but this one I think it the hardest to explain. The main note that comes to mind right away is woodiness. Not in a super manly way either. It’s an interesting, amazing scent. I can see why maybe some wouldn’t like this scent because it’s so different, but I think it’s one everyone should try.

This is my scent! I wear it everyday and get compliments every day! I have had 7 bottles of this and will continue to get it! I probably use too much at one time but I love to smell it. I highly recommend it! This fragrance will make you be happy every time you use it! Give it a try! Get ready!!! You will be obsessed with it!

This is a very beautiful scent. Obviously everyone else thinks the same as there so many alternatives to the original. I do feel like it doesn’t last as long as I would like for the hype and price point. There’s so many dupes out there and some do last longer, but this will always win imo. I will definitely only be purchasing the 35ml bottle though.

I absolutely love this fragrance! There is a difference from all the dupes out there i.e Ariana's Cloud, Zara's Red Temptation, Sol de Janeiro Lattafa, ALT Crystal No.23 etc. This just smells more sophisticated. I can always smell the difference when I am out in public. The others are just musky and less refined. It's just one of my top ten favorites for life and I see why it has been often imitated but never duplicated.

I did not understand the HYPE when I first tried this. My second try I began to appreciate the experience of BR540. Like a wine, you enjoy it from the opening notes on, and I was pleasantly surprised every step of the way. It could easily be a signature scent, but I will probably choose something else - not because this is common in the area I live in but because I really love something with a little spice in it. It's lovely; I feel lovely wearing it.

Save $300 and buy Ariana Grande Cloud perfume. I received a sample (thank God) and my 16 yo immediately noticed this is identical to the Cloud perfume. I cant get over how identical they are because I wore the Cloud perfume before passing it on to my daughter. It is such a disappointment because I expected a more sophisticated fragrance due to the price and hype. It isn't awful but it smells like an ok gourmand with some musky undertones, like a drugstore perfume a teen or twenty something might wear. If that's your thing trust me, get the Cloud perfume. If you are looking for a classic, sophisticated, complex mature perfume, you won't find it with this one.

I wanted to give this perfume a try with all the hype! I am so glad that I did. I wasn't sure about it when I smelled it in the sample bottle. It wasn't super wow to me at first; however, I put some on and when I say some, I mean a few dabs with the little sample stick, the scent took on a whole new feeling smell. I LOVED the way it dried down and a little goes a long way. I have worn the perfume at least 5 times and it doesn't appear to have any missing! It is such an attractive smell, my husband calls it my sugar perfume, haha, he is a BIG fan. I have received compliments every single time wearing it. Definitely will invest in a full size.

This perfume had so much hype but was terribly mediocre on me. The scent dissipated quickly and lucky, too, because my sister said the scent was straight-up cat urine.

I get the most compliments when I wear this cologne. Funny thing is I dont even know what it smells like. When I smell the bottle, it doesnt smell like anything special. When I out it on, I still dont really smell it. But when I walk into my office, everyone wants to smell me. It is crazy. People could still smell it 12 hours later. I'm on my 2nd bottle.

This perfume has such rave reviews and so much hype, I thought let's give it a try. I ordered the sample and am sure glad I did because I would have been distraught if I'd blind purchased this. I think it smells like a musty unused room that has been closed off for a long time, basically, it stinks. I don't know what all the raving is about, perhaps people want to "belong" and not feel left out of a new thing, It smells terrible.

I didn't want to 'blind buy' this fragrance due to the outrageous price tag. I bought a sample because I wanted to smell what all the hype was about. I am so glad I purchased the sample because honestly, I think it absolutely stinks, I put a bit on my wrist and allowed it to sit for hours, and after I felt it was long enough to give an honest opinion, it was still disgusting. I guess to each his own but if you are thinking about buying this fragrance please don't buy without first trying it on yourself. It smells musty like a nasty closed-off room with no ventilation.

This reminds me of L'ombre Dans L'eau by Diptyque but a bit softer. At first, I thought it smelled too manly but it has since faded to a more feminine vibe. It is too strong for me but I can see why others like it.

THIS. Yes, I may be basic and will not deny my love of vanilla and gourmand scents but I adore this. I will keep burning through the samples until I can splurge on a full bottle. It doesn't even have a vanilla note but still manages to be creamy and warm with great staying power without being intrusive. This is my "baking in lingerie" vibe.

I have read and watched many a video about this and now that I tried it, I must say I'm confused. This is a warm and sweet scent that doesn't change much and I can't really pick out certain ingredients other than slightly woodsy and caramel maybe. It's not fresh to me like others have said it is. It's not bad per say but absolutely nothing to write home about. For $600 this is a ridiculous fragrance.... Possibly a scam on part of the "house". All hype.

I smell the oakmoss and some mineral compound that smells a lot like salt (with the occasional whiff of something really dry/dusty that reminds me of Andy Tauer's desert-themed perfumes). I get absolutely no flowers, no saffron, no amber, and definitely nothing woody. But seeing as how long I've been looking for a scent that smells like the ocean but without that hideous aquatic note that everyone seems to add to "salty" scents, I think I like it! Not sure if I hundreds-of-dollars like it, though.
