One of my least favorite scents I have tried from Imaginary Authors. The cons list above on this page is pretty accurate. Huge leather scent, with some expired herbal remedies, in an old apothecary vibe. The opening is pretty astringent, like opening a too-old bottle of brandy. The rose is fairly strong but in a dark, wetly rotting kind of way, sweet with decay. When I first put it on, I could swear I smelled honey, which I hate in perfume because it's so cloying. I think this scent could work if it were a little drier, like if it smelled of dried flowers rather than rotting flowers. It's a nice leather scent, but the sweetness is too much. Not for me. 4.5/10.

The saffron was unexpected, but so lovely. Every time I have saffron in the spice drawer, I end up taking big sniffs of it. I never considered it could be a fragrance note. But it plays so nicely with the leather and rose. It's a warm fragrance, very gender neutral despite the rose absolute. Sometimes rose can smell like grannies, but not with this. It reminds me of the way my favorite Renaissance festival smells - there's a leather vendor right next to a metalsmith who makes metal roses and puts rose oil in the sculpture. It also lasts FOREVER. It has such great staying power. I was smelling it on myself for about twelve hours. I can't wait to add a bottle to my perfume wardrobe.

I *love* this scent. It's so WEIRD. I applied just a little bit from the tester and wow -- it's big! A spray might be too much! I had no idea I liked saffron so much! The leather is pretty strong but just shy of overpowering. The apple is faint but in there -- not sweet, just a little funky and fruity. I get no rose, I'm afraid. It's possible that not everyone would think I smell fantastic in this but I00% do not care.

Very glad I got a sample of this and I hope it was free. The first notes I get are raid bug spray and those artificially scented christmas pine cones. It is very interesting how this changes over time-- about a half hour later some interesting and fresh notes come into play, but overall this scent is a weird chemical experiment that never actually smells good.
