"My relationship with the sea is conveyed through some references dear to me: the sacred sense of the drama in “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” by S.T. Coleridge, the epic and theatrical adaptation by Iron Maiden, but especially the mysterious, evocative, contemplative, experimental, immersive instrumental song “Sailor’s Tale” from the album “Islands” by King Crimson."
The Mariner's Rhyme is a fascinatingly constructed oceanic scent- a fresh and transparent unisex fragrance on one side, yet densely structured on the other. The citrusy and ozonic opening has a lively and modern character, reinforced by the sharp edge of aldehydes. We are at sea, but there is a hint of orange blossom in the background coming from the mainland. The salty ambergris and the metallic aldehyde associated with oakmoss evoke the taste of oyster shells, as well as the shadowy depths of the sea. The transparency of the ozonic accord transforms into a more opaque and thick accord, thanks to iris, which adds an almost sacred and mystical character, evoked by elemi and incense. Transparent and luminous, with a subtle sense of animalic sensuality, The Mariner's Rhyme is Francesca Bianchi's most sophisticated and fascinating composition yet.
