Created by Marissa Zappas in collaboration with poet M. Elizabeth Scott, Flaming Creature is a narcotic, hazy evocation of – and ode to – American filmmaker Jack Smith's (1932 - 1989) best-known work, the entrancingly disjointed Flaming Creatures. Feral first breaths of night-blooming jasmine and pink peppercorn give way to a subtle base of smoldering wormwood, patchouli and musk.
What We Think
Dangerously smoky and sweet, Flaming Creature reminds us of Icarus, flying too close to a sunny note of juniper and orange (Ring Pop), all to get smoked out and tumble down into absurd bushels of night-blooming jasmine soaked in rum. As mysterious as it is confounding, we can't get enough.
