Today, I'm trying Escentric 05. This is a really interesting fragrance that contains Casmarin, which is the single material that is used in Molecule 05. Casmarin is known to be a woodsy smell, but it has a very distinctive green, damp quality and a musky cocooning feel, which makes it a little bit sweet and just very pleasant.
It's combined in this instance with citrus notes like bergamot and some florals like freesia and iris, although to be honest, I didn't really detect florals. I read the notes and I thought, oh, maybe it's going to go a little bit more feminine and be very floral, but it's not. In fact, I want to say that it has pink pepper. I didn't read that in the notes, but it smells very eccentric molecule to me. There's definitely a signature that goes through the brand. And I know that the perfumer Geyser Schön works with pink pepper so well. So it's very much in that style.
If you're a fan of the eccentrics of 01 and 02 and 03, you'll definitely enjoy this. Very squarely unisex.
I've been asked, does it resemble Baccarat Rouge 540 from Maison Francis Kurkdjian because that is a fragrance that uses a lot of Casmarin and this uses a lot of Casmarin. And I wouldn't say that they're so entirely polar different. They're not, but I would never confuse them either. I find Baccarat Rouge 540 a lot sweeter. In fact, gourmand, this is not gourmand, but it does have that comforting cocoon smell and that sort of mystery as you wear it.
I highly recommend it. Eccentric 05.
